Roanoke church celebrates 'Year of Faith'

ROANOKE, VA -

A local church is answering the call for A Year of Faith.

Before he left the papacy, then Pope Benedict XVI called for the Catholic Church to observe a year of faith from October 11, 2012 through November 24, 2013.

Thousands of people will answer that call at St. Andrew's in Roanoke starting Saturday. The church is holding a Festival of Faith which will include combining four Masses into one outdoor Mass Sunday.

It's going to be a four day event with activities and a renowned speaker scheduled through Monday, but an event the church hopes will inspire beyond the last day of activities. "What we hope is that people will make a decision to take their faith to a different level," said Chuck Frost. "Maybe not the next level but a different place-- maybe pray a little more, read the Scripture a little more, study the teachings of the church, do works of mercy."

St. Andrew's will also offer parishioners an opportunity to sign up to take part in various opportunities. Find details of festival events here.
