Gov. McDonnell attends STEM Academy ribbon cutting

Posted: Updated:

Governor Bob McDonnell returned to the region today, to fulfill a promise to focus on improving science, technology, engineering and math, or "STEM" learning for students.

People from all over the Lynchburg community, including some future XLR8 STEM Academy students came out to take part in the celebration.

This new center has an extra special meaning for Governor McDonnell, it marks the 16th to be approved, which fulfills his promise.

"You already heard there's going to be a million jobs that might not be able to be filled because we don't have enough smart home grown kids that are in the stem areas from our own country," says McDonnell. "That's terrible. And you earn 26 percent more by going into those jobs."
