Murphy family recognizes abduction suspect, pleading to public for help

Posted: Updated:
NELSON COUNTY, VA -

Today, Laura Murphy would be at Nelson County High School wishing her 17-year-old daughter Alexis luck on her first of her senior year.

Alexis would reunite with her friends and take her place on the court as the volleyball team captain.

Instead, a now grieving mother is pleading through tears for help to find her daughter.

'I carried my youngest son to school this morning, but didn't have my daughter to take," Alexis' mother, Laura Murphy says. "If anyone knows anything, please let us know, please."

Once a missing person case has changed with police arresting 48-year-old Randy Taylor on Sunday afternoon on abduction charges.

Alexis' aunt tells our sister station NBC 29 that she's seen Taylor around the area and recognizes a distinguishable tattoo on his neck. She also has seen his camouflage SUV.

Investigators are now asking the public if they have seen the truck between August 3rd when Alexis first disappeared, and August 6th, when her car was found in Charlottesville.

The news has turned this community upside down,  including Allison Fisher, a teen the same age as Alexis.

"It's kind or scary, because I wouldn't think that could happen to someone around here like that because its a really small town," local teen, Allison Fisher says. "So, it's kind of scary."

You can't go far without seeing fliers with Alexis' picture asking people for help, and pink ribbons tied from Alexis' home in Shipman to Lovingston.

"It's reminded me of how close and tight knit the Nelson County community is," Nelson County Commonwealth Attorney, Anthony Martin, says.

A community that hopes Alexis will be found and returned to her family's arms soon.
