DURHAM, N.C. -

The Durham Bulls Athletic Park is considered one of the best minor league baseball parks in America, and it takes a great grounds crew to keep it looking nice.

To find out how the guys at the ballpark maintain the field, Phil Sanchez heads to Durham to be a member of the Bulls groundskeeping team.

Durham Bulls Head Groundskeeper Scott Strickland has been with the Bulls for 10 seasons. He's also the man in charge training Phil.

"This is definitely a job where you can do something, and at the end of the day you can look around and see all that you've accomplished," said Strickland.

Before any game, both teams have a chance to take the field for practice, including some batting practice. Once both teams are done practicing, it's time to get the field ready for the night's game.

One of the first things the groundskeeping crew does is push the batting cage off the field, and roll up the mats and tarps. Once everything is removed from the field, the next thing is watering down the field. One of the jobs here is to make sure the hose doesn't drag.

After Phil and the crew water down the field, it's time to remove hose and shut off the water. After that, it's time to paint the lines.

Last but not least, the bases have to be installed. And the goal is to keep them clean and white. Instead of using their feet to make sure the base is properly installed, the crew will use their fists to make sure it's in place.

The crew tries to have the field ready right at 7 p.m. for a 7:05 p.m. game.
