Hokies Injuries Mount as Alabama Approaches

Posted: Updated:

Coach Bud Foster's second significant injury is the loss of his WHIP linebacker. Sophomore Ronny Vandyke has a dislocated shoulder that will require surgery---so he's gone for the season.   Number 37 was running as the starter at WHIP linebacker which is considered one of the playmaker positions of Virginia Tech's defense. Josh Trimble and Derek Dinardo are next on the depth chart.

In addition to Vandyke's injury, running back and return man Tony Gregory might have seen his Hokies football career end after re-tearing his ACL.  Offensive tackle Mark Shuman has a torn meniscus in his knee and will be gone a month or more.  And the co-number one at running back, JC Coleman has two ankle sprains.  One is a high ankle and he will be questionable leading up to the Alabama contest on August 31st.
