BUTNER, N.C. -

An officer with the Butner Police Department shot a suspect in the chest during an altercation Friday evening.

Butner police said officers were executing a search warrant at a residence on 11th Street when the shooting happened.

Officers got into an altercation with a suspect in the driveway, police said. An officer then fired his weapon, striking the suspect in the chest.

Butner police said the suspect was conscious and alert when being transported to Duke Hospital

The State Bureau of Investigation is now looking at the incident which is standard protocol with officer involved shootings.
