President Barack Obama will have a private meeting with various financial regulators today to discuss ongoing efforts to strengthen the financial system, including the implementation of the Dodd-Frank law revamping the nation's financial system and the Consumer Protection Act.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte will visit Carter Machinery in Salem this morning at 9:00. He'll tour the facility and talk with employees.

A traffic alert in Bath County today. Route 637 (Lower Yard) will be closed for three weeks starting today while crews replace a bridge over Cabin Creek. It will be closed just east of Route 691 (Forbes Hollow) and west of Route 665.

An Alert for swimmers this week. Starting today, the Christiansburg Aquatic Center will be closed through August 30th for maintenance.

Lynchburg schools will meet at E-C Glass this morning at 9:00 for their Convocation. The convocation gives teachers a chance to reflect on past school years and set goals for upcoming ones. The first day for Lynchburg students is next Monday.

There will be a ribbon cutting for the new Carilion Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Healing Garden just before noon today, at 11:45. The garden, along the Roanoke River Greenway, is designed to foster relaxation or invigoration in coordination with patient's senses.
