Roanoke pastor and Civil Rights leader Carl Tinsley will be laid to rest today.
Reverend Tinsley was named Roanoke Citizen of the Year in 2012 for his work in the community. He led a number of organizations, including the Roanoke Chapter of the NAACP, of which he was a past president. Tinsley pastored at several local churches and delivered his final sermon back in June at First Baptist Church of Buena Vista.
Tinsley died August 17 after a battle with cancer.
Friends and family will gather at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Roanoke for his service this morning at 11:00.
Reverend Tinsley was 80-years-old.
