RUSSELL COUNTY, VA (WJHL) -

An Abingdon man is dead after his car and another person's car collided, which led to someone pulling a gun.

The Russell County Commonwealth Attorney's Office says the wreck and subsequent fatal shooting occurred yesterday on Route 671, also known as Copper Creek Road in Castlewood.

Commonwealth Attorney Brian Patton says after one car hit the other, 53 year-old Douglas Allen Whitt was shot and died of a gunshot wound.

"The investigation is being conducted by the Russell County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police," a news release said. "The investigation remains ongoing and no further details can be released at this time."
