Blue Ridge Veterans Celebration raises money for local veterans

ROANOKE, VA -

Thousands of Veterans, active duty military and their families live in southwest Virginia.

The Blue Ridge Veterans Celebration 5K race and fun run raises money for different groups serving the military and their families around the area.

This is the second year for the race.

The $25 entry fee goes to local military organizations:

- Virginia Wounded Warrior Program who makes sure veterans and their families have access to behavioral health and rehab services.

-Military Family Support Center who serves as a "home base" supporting soldiers in the area who don't live close to a base and need things like a food pantry.

-New this year local veterans organizations can apply for grants. (see information below on how to apply) Grants are awarded to organizations that work to improve the lives of veterans and their families. 

You may remember last year the Blue Ridge Veterans Celebration raised about $15,000 for JB Kerns, a Marine who lost both legs and an arm in an IED blast. He ran last year in the race.

The race is Sunday, September 8th at Wasena Park at 2 p.m. you can register online.

      2.  Write a paragraph on the request for these monies --

a.  Purpose to which the grant would be allocated.

b.  How a grant from BRVC can make a difference to a veteran(s).

3. Please include contact person's name, phone number, address and e-mail.

This application is for monies to be distributed as a result of the Blue Ridge Veterans Celebration Board's fundraising activities.  Grants are awarded to organizations that work to improve the lives of veterans and their families. 

**IMPORTANT**  Notification will be sent to all applicants when grant decisions have been finalized.
