RBTC to host small business workshop

Posted: Updated:

The Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council will host its final summer workshop today.

The event focuses on giving small companies an opportunity to learn from local business leaders that have had success growing technology companies in the area.

The council capped the event at 50 people to allow everyone time to talk with the speakers about issues their companies are facing.

Executive Director of RBTC, Derick Maggard, says that many of the companies attending are deciding whether to expand or stick with the niche market they currently dominate. The speakers will address the question of when is the right time for expansion at the seminar.

The council would like to see the local technology industry continue to grow in the coming months as a result of the workshop. Maggard says, "If our technology sector doesn't grow, then we end up being a industry or a region very similar to the regions or industries that have been impacted by textiles moving over seas and other regions that have lost jobs. But right now the job growth, is almost predominantly in healthcare and technology and we want to make sure that continues to grow and succeed."

The event is being held at the Roanoke Higher Education Center and runs from 8am-12pm.
