Golf Tournament to Help Officer Perkins

Posted: Updated:

We are following up on the story of Roanoke police officer Patrick Perkins who continues to be flooded out of his house more than a month after his home initially flooded.

A local branch of Tinker Creek is supposed to carry rain water away from the neighborhood, but clearly the banks have given way.  (reason still undetermined) So instead of going to Tinker Creek, a* lot* of the water is going directly to Perkins' house.

The sandbags around the home force the water into the ground where it still floods his basement

"The sandbags do the job, but the problem we still have -- is it comes up through the sump pump area and it comes in through the walls -- and we still have water in the basement," he said.

For more than a month Perkins family has been living in a camper beside his home.

He can't live in the house because hot water and heating and cooling were ruined, and if he replaces them, they'll be ruined again.

There is a fund to assist him, since he doesn't have flood insurance -- because he doesn't live in a flood plain.

And now there is a golf tournament to benefit him as well. The AquiaHharbour police department is having the tournament on September 14th Click here to see the flyer.

 Additional Information

The "Officer Perkins Relief Fund" has been set up at the Roanoke Valley Community Credit Union.

Checks should be made out specifically to that fund.
