WSLS 10 softball team to raise money for The Salvation Army

Saturday at 4 p.m. WSLS 10's softball team will take the field for a good cause.

Tickets are free and all donations go to the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army says most everyone associates the organization with the Red Kettle Campaign at Christmas time, but all of the money raised then is now spent, so this is really a tough time of year for the organization.

The Red Shield Lodge helps homeless men, oftentimes struggling with drug and alcohol abuse.

J.C. Lutz, a Gulf War veteran who started the program in February of this year.   

He said when he showed up on their doorstep he was spiritually and morally bankrupt.

"They gave me a sense of hope to begin with and they've help me reestablish my faith in Christ, that's where my help comes from, I think a lot of the times we take for granted just tell powerful a touch or a listening ear and honest complement can have potential to turn lives around and that's what they do there at the Red Shield Lodge," Lutz explained.

He says when he's finished with the program he would like to help other veterans who also struggled with PTSD.

He will be at the game, so come out and enjoy some softball and meet the folks you're helping firsthand.
