More witnesses are expected to testify today against Fort Hood shooter Major. Nidal Hasan. A jury soon will decide if Hasan deserves a death sentence or life without parole.

Students at Sandy Hook Elementary will return to the classroom today at a new location. A closed middle school outside Newtown, Connecticut was donated and renamed Sandy Hook Elementary. Newtown residents will later vote on an a task force approved plan to demolish the school where the shooting took place and build a new one on the same site.

It's back to school today for Roanoke County Schools. Students will return for the new year starting today.

A left lane of Interstate 81 will be closed in Pulaski County today from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.. It will be near mile marker 96 while the bridge over Peak Creek inspected.

VDOT will have a design public hearing tonight in Amherst County. The agency will show plans for the proposed improvements to the section of Route 130 (Elon Road) from 4:00-6:00 p.m. At Pleasant View Elementary.

The developer of South Peak will break ground on the new 80,000-square-foot Hilton Garden Inn in Roanoke County this morning at 10:30. The development that will combine condominiums, homes, retail shopping, restaurants and office space.
