Hillsville Mayor charged with impersonating an officer

According to the VA Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Hillsville Mayor Gregory Crowder was charged Friday, Aug. 23 with impersonating a law enforcement officer and booked in the Bristol Sheriff's Office. The alleged violation occurred on March 14 in Bristol, Va. Crowder was released on his own recognizance.

Impersonating a law enforcement officer is a Class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 and confinement in jail for up to a year, either or both.

The case will be heard in the City of Bristol (Va.) General District Court. According to online records, it will take place September 5th at 1:30 p.m.
