Twenty-seven true or redshirt freshman will be making the trip to the Georgia dome on Saturday for Virginia Tech. That's nearly 40 percent of the roster.  The Hokies task couldn't be taller.  The number one ranked Crimson Tide return 12 starters from their national title team--and the Alabama two-deep is littered with a who's-who of 4 and 5 star recruits.  It would be easy..to be intimidated--but Hokies Linebacker Jack Tyler says he sees a bunch of excited players who are anxious to play the game--he called the Hokies a bunch of hungry dogs ready to chomp.  Coach Beamer took a more measured approach, calling Alabama the best team the Hokies have ever faced in his time in Blacksburg--that includes the great Miami, USC and FSU teams of the past. He said the important thing for him was that the young players develop and the Hokies are ready to go come conference time. He did however, say clearly that they Hokies were not conceding anything despite the underdog status. (The Hokies are currently 20 point underdogs to #1 Alabama).

The key to the Hokies success..may very well be what kind of poise the young talent that surrounds Logan Thomas possesses--especially in this big game atmosphere. Logan, for his part, says some of the young guys might be nervous for a play or two, but that he has faith that they will settle into the game and be just fine.  The Hokies have never beaten a number one ranked team in the history of the program. The game is scheduled to kick from Atlanta at 5:30 Eastern time on Saturday.
