Closing arguments are set for today in the trial of the Fort Hood shooter Major Nidal Hasan. Prosecutors are trying to secure the death penalty.

Roanoke College will observe the 50th anniversary of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech with a bell-ringing ceremony at 3 p.m. on the Back Quad. This is part of a nation-wide "Let Freedom Ring" event a half-century to the minute after King delivered his historic address.

The city of Lynchburg will hold a tribute to the anniversary tonight at 7:00. This event at Providence Place is an effort to promote non-violent methods for social change.

The Bedford Regional Water Authority will have an open house this afternoon on plans to build a new pipeline and water treatment plant from Smith Mountain Lake to Forest. It's at Trinity Ecumenical Parish from 2:00-4:00 p.m..

    ROANOKE (WSLS) - Part of Interstate 581 in Roanoke was shut down early this morning following what police say was a DUI crash.The accident happened around 3:10 a.m. Police say a man was driving a truck when he lost control and flipped.He was arrested for driving under the influence.All northbound lanes will be reopened to traffic momentarily.
