The UVA School of Medicine has received a multimillion dollar grant to find ways to battle genetic heart disease.

The program has been awarded $14.4 million dollars in federal funding to find better ways to predict which patients with genetic heart problems are at the greatest risk for heart failure.

Approximately 1 in 500 Americans is believed to have a genetic heart condition.

UVA will serve as the lead site for a 5-year patient study.
