Roanoke couple will team up to lead 2014 Roanoke Valley United Way campaign

ROANOKE -

Lucy and Gary Walton have been married for nearly twenty five years.  The partnership in their relationship has carried over into community service in the past and that pattern will continue.

The Roanoke Valley United Way campaign for 2014 will have the Waltons as leaders for increased success in serving the community.

Lucy Walton says, "The United Way has a great program already that runs very well because of their staff.  I envision the two of us trying to put in something new, a bit of spark perhaps, adding something different for participants.  We would like to put in a little bit of excitement but we are not sure what that is yet."

The Waltons have co-chaired Roanoke's Relay for Life event to benefit the American Cancer Society and Lucy has an organizing role in this year's Cure by Design to benefit A.C.S.

The couple will take over as co-chairs for United Way in January.

Gary explains how they are preparing, "We are trying to find out all of the ins and outs of what it takes to run the Community Campaign."

After living in Roanoke for nearly twenty years the Waltons believe being a part of the community is important.  They look forward to continuing long term community partnerships in 2014 and beyond.
