The Blacksburg Police Department warns the community about a telephone scam targeting banking information.
Police say the callers identify themselves as Mega Millions Sweepstakes representatives and tell people they are have won millions of dollars.
The caller will ask for a certain amount of money to be paid in advance for insurance holding.
After that, police say, they ask for bank account information so the money can be deposited when they receive the insurance holding money.
If you get one of these calls, police advise against responding.
If you are able to get the caller's name or the number they call from, contact your local police department.
