Workers at fast food restaurants like McDonald's are planning a nationwide strike in as many as 35 cities. The walk-off comes just before the labor day holiday gets underway.

The State Corporation Commission will hold a hearing at 10:00 in Richmond to get public input on Appalachian Power request for rate changes. The company wants to raise rates to recover costs incurred in complying with state and federal environmental requirements.

Details about the future of Explore Park will be released later this morning. The Virginia Recreational Facilities Authority isn't saying much ahead of the 10:00 a.m. announcement at the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center.

Montgomery County's 2013 Teacher of the Year will be awarded this morning. The county Chamber of Commerce will present Blacksburg High School teacher Bradley Kraft with a $1,000 cash prize from area businesses at 8:30 a.m..

E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg is ready for some football. The school will host Harrisonburg for the first local high school football game of the season, tonight at 6:30.

Liberty University's Cinematic Arts Film festival kicks off today. Several movies from major film studios will be screened before their national release at Cinemark Movies 10 in Candlers Station Shopping Center. It's free to the public.

Roanoke College is moving a house today. They habitat for humanity house students worked on during orientation this week is being relocated to its Patterson Avenue foundation.
