Jefferson Forest students sent home after lockdown

Posted: Updated:
BEDFORD COUNTY, VA -

Jefferson Forest High School students are being released from school early today while police continue their investigation into a threat at the school.

Bedford County's Ryan Edwards tells WSLS the threat at Jefferson Forest was detected around 11 a.m. by school officials.  Students were immediately taken to the football field as law enforcement agents began an investigation inside of the building.

Once it was determined that the investigation could last longer than expected and it started to rain in the area, students were taken across the street to Forest Elementary School.

Bedford County then decided to dismiss the students early.  Edwards says that students who normally ride home on school busses are being bussed home early.  Students who normally are picked up from school by a parent can be picked up at Forest Elementary school instead of Jefferson Forest High School this afternoon.

Police are still investigating the threat at this time.  We will continue to bring you the latest information as it becomes available.
