Blacksburg Cyclist Hit

UPDATE: 

Virginia State Police say an accident involving a bicyclist and a Virginia Tech Police cruiser, was the fault of the cyclist.

According to Sgt. Robert Carpentieri, the investigating trooper found that Matthew Bennett Jr., of Blacksburg, was riding south on Clay Street at 1:26 p.m., and ran a stop sign at the intersection with Draper Road.

Bennett ran into the cruise of Virginia Tech Police Department patrol officer Austin Sumners.

EMTs treated Bennett at the scene, and no charges have been filed.

Blacksburg Police tell WSLS a Virginia Tech Police cruiser and a cyclist were involved in an accident this afternoon.

Police say it happened in the 400 block of Draper Road in Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech Police called in State Police to investigate.

Police say the cyclist was not seriously hurt.
