Durham cyclist gets Maced by impatient driver

It's not your everyday case of road rage. A cyclist in Durham said an impatient driver sprayed him with Mace.

It happened on Tuesday near the intersection of Old Chapel Hill Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.

"It was pretty bad," explained Henry Evans. "I don't wish that on my worst enemy. Let's put it that way.

Evans has been pedaling the streets for 8 years.

"There's the occasional driver that gets too close and annoys you, but never somebody that attacks you," said Evans.

Evans said he was at a stop light and as the light turned green, a white Honda came swerving around him. He said it was a close call, so out of frustration he threw his hands up and yelled, "Go!"

Apparently, that didn't sit very well with the driver.

"I don't know what his issue was," said Evans.

He said the car stopped right in the middle of the road so he went to pass him on the driver's side. As soon as he got up to the window, that's when he said the driver sprayed him with Mace

"There was a big spray and I just go right into it, there's no way to avoid it," Evans said.

He rode straight to the police station and filed a report.

The driver sped away but before he did, Mace wasn't the only thing that caught Evans' eye.

"My first instinct when something like that happens was to look at his license plate number so I was able to get that," he said.

Police are investigating the case and Evans says they're now looking for that car.

If you have any information call the Durham Police Department.
