City Market Building extends hours

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE, VA -

Businesses in the city market will have their hours extended in just a few days.

Ovex there past year, most of the vendors have been pushing for the change.

Vendors say it's a great way to boost sales.

The businesses can set their own hours and work around what's better for their customers.

The extended hours start the first day of September. Although, the Market Building will be closed for Labor Day.

The hours are being extended at night and the building will be open two hours later Wednesday and Thursday until 9 p.m.

One hour will be added Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m.

The business owners say this will help them attract the dinner crowd.

"For us, it means we can all tailor our businesses to suit our individual clients," Firefly Fare Owner and Chef, Chris Parkhurt says. "So, the flexibility is really good for everyone I think."

The vendors do have to meet a minimum number of hours open.

The leaders at the Market Building are calling this an experiment.

They say it will run until the end of the year and if it's successful, the new hours will be in place for good.

Signs will be posted on the inside and outside of the building in the next few weeks so you can keep track of the hours.
