More than forty thousand dollars has been raised toward a six hundred thousand dollar goal

Sunken City Brewery at Westlake near Smith Mountain Lake has been open for nearly 4 months and in that time the business has grown fast.

Jerome Parnell, Sunken City Brewery Owner says, "We've doubled production in the last three months here."

Andrea Fansler, Smith Mountain Lake YMCA Director is hoping the upcoming Octoberfest 5k fundraiser will be just as successful.

So far, the non-profit has raised forty thousand dollars in a month.

Fansler says, "It is amazing how much wonderful and positive feedback we have received."

The facility needs to raise a total of six hundred thousand dollars. Fansler says they have a donor who will match whatever they raise by October 15th.

That's where Sunken City Brewery and Willard Companies are helping by sponsoring an upcoming Octoberfest 5k trail run that will start near the brewery and end with a festival event in the parking lot.  The festival is open to everyone. There will be a five dollar fee for adults and kids are free.  All of the proceeds will benefit the S.M.L. YMCA.

The run starts at 10:30am October 19th.

There is also a silent auction being held at the S.M.L. YMCA facility Friday night September 27th.
