Glenvar dedicates weight room to Michael Sandridge

SALEM, VA -

Before Glenvar High School and Galax took the field for their first game of the season, Highlander Stadium took a moment to remember Michael Sandridge, a former Glenvar football player who lost his battle with cancer back in January.

When Michael was asked what he wanted from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he said new weights for the football team. Now, the new equipment is in use by his former teammates who have named their updated weight room in his honor.

"Obviously we would give everything back to have Michael back," says Glenvar's head coach, Kevin Clifford. "I don't know how many 16 year old kids that are battling cancer would think of something like that instead of planning a vacation or something for his family. It was a very unselfish act a very caring act."

During the ceremony Michael's family was on hand as his framed jersey was unveiled.
