More than 50 search & rescue personel look for evidence along Rt. 29 in Alexis Murphy case

Posted: Updated:

Nelson County investigators tell WSLS around 6 a.m. several teams began coordinating efforts for a search and rescue in the Alexis Murphy Case.

More than 50 people from different search and rescue teams began looking around 7 a.m. along Route 29. Investigators searched areas they believe abduction suspect, Randy Taylor, may have traveled in the days leading up to teen's disappearance.

Detective Mays says about 12 dog teams, 20 to 30 ground personnel, and water teams looked for evidence that would help find the 17-year-old Nelson County teen. He says they are still calling this case an 'active search and rescue.'

The search was active until about 6 p.m.

Detective Billy Mays with the Nelson County Sheriff's office, says many of the people are volunteers from search and rescue teams who traveled from across the state to help.

The water teams searched Rockfish River and along secondary roads like Wheelers Cove, Stage Bridge, and Pine Trail. Investigators say they searched 10 different locations.

Today marks 4 weeks since the teens disappearance.
