Labor day celebrations got started a few days early in the Star City. The America Works Labor Day Parade hit the streets of Downtown Roanoke at around 11 a.m.
Many headed out to watch and cheer on the trucks, floats and people marching through the streets, including Roanoke City's own Mayor Bowers.
"On this day we honor the labor and the workers of America," says David Bowers. "Working class guys are the ones who put this country on its feet and build America. It is important for Roanoke to honor the labor of workers on this weekend."
At the parade's end, there was a huge festival to continue the holiday weekend celebrations.
