Lynchburg Community Dialogue on Race and Racism

Posted: Updated:

A few weeks ago the Lynchburg Mayor and Vice Mayor talked about the need to bring back a program from a couple years ago the Community Dialogue on Race and Racism.

Back in 2011 there were small-group dialogues.  The discussions are credited with starting up Beacon of Hope a local organization working to give every Lynchburg student access to education after high school.

Rosel Schewel was active in the discussions, sits on the Beacon of Hope board of directors and encourages people and businesses to get involved in the programs.

"For me it was an amazing experience. People don't realize they have prejudices until they are talking to all kinds of different people and so it was a great learning experience for me and I think it would be for everyone to participate in the circles," said Schewel.

Next month, at Randolph College there's a conference called Race, Poverty, and Social Justice.
