Congressman Goodlatte and Griffith to test Google Car

Posted: Updated:

Congressmen Bob Goodlatte and Morgan Griffith are taking a ride inside a Google Car in Blacksburg today.

The car is a part of an automated driving study that began last October.

The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute is partnering with multiple organizations to determine what features an automated car needs to have to optimize vehicle and driver responses.

Congressman Goodlatte says he believes this technology will make the roadways safer. He says, "It's really amazing technology. I'm glad that they are bringing it here so that people doing research here and other things at Tech can participate in that research and that work as well. Also, so people in the area can see this amazing new technology."

The ride will take place at 1pm today.
