FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Fayetteville Police say a citizen came to the aid of an officer Monday when the officer was assaulted by a woman with scissors.

Police were called to the area of Campground Road near Nix Road around 5:20 p.m. Monday in response to a suspicious person with a weapon. When the responding officer arrived, he found a woman who was armed with a hammer and scissors.

During the encounter, the suspect, identified as Ayana Kenyatta Taylor, 21, of New Jersey, assaulted the officer with the scissors.

A citizen came to the aid of the officer during the assault, at which point the officer tried unsuccessfully to use his Taser on Taylor.

Police say Taylor then stole a police vehicle and drove it about a quarter of a mile before crashing. Cell phone video provided to WNCN by James Kiddy shows the police car speeding away after a scuffle on the ground.

Four vehicles were involved in the crash at the intersection of Morganton and Skibo roads. No serious injuries were reported.

Police said Tuesday that Taylor was in town with family members visiting other relatives.

Taylor remained at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Tuesday night for evaluation. She faces a number of charges once she is discharged from the medical facility.

Taylor will be charged with assault on a government official with a deadly weapon; larceny of a motor vehicle; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; resist, delay and obstruct a law enforcement officer; as well as additional traffic-related offenses.
