Feeding America Southwest Virginia Kicks Off Hunger Awareness Month

Posted: Updated:

Feeding America Southwest Virginia will host Virginia Elected Officials Day at it's warehouse this morning.

The organization has teamed up with local leaders for the past few years to help bring awareness to hunger in our region.

Today's event is the kick off for Hunger Action Month.

Both Congressman Morgan Griffith and Delegate Greg Habeeb are expected to speak.

Following the press conference, all officials will tour the warehouse. They will also pack and sort food.

The event is open to the public.

Hunger Action Month is a national campaign that aims to make people aware of hunger in their area and encourage them to help.

There are 147,000 people in Southwest Virginia that do not know where their next meal will come from.

The organization is giving people many ways to get involved this month. It will host multiple "Day of Service" events. Feeding America Southwest Virginia also encourages people to volunteer at their local food pantry or host a food drive.
