RALEIGH, N.C. -

It is the eve of Hopscotch 2013, which means thousands music fans will pour into downtown Raleigh for one of the Triangle's most exhausting, and memorable, three days of the year.

Since its inception four years ago, the Hopscotch Music Festival has attracted more than 60,000 music fans and 450 bands to the City of Oaks.

Grayson Currin, co-founder of Hopscotch, said the size of the festival is what makes it so beautiful.  "You can go all over the city and see all types of music from all over the world, so you kind of choose your own adventure.  You create your own adventure," Currin said.

This summer's Hopscotch kicks off three nights of music on Sept. 5, with nearly 175 bands spanning 15 stages throughout downtown Raleigh over the weekend. The pièce de résistance of the festival are its City Plaza shows on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7.

"This is the fourth Hopscotch, and I'm confident it's the best lineup we've ever assembled," festival co-director Grayson Currin said. "I believe we push some boundaries harder than we have before, with several experimental artists making some of today's most bleeding-edge music on the slate.

"But that's balanced with incredible pop and dance music, great old-time and country offerings, garage rock and our best docket of heavy metal to date."

City Plaza is sure to turn into a dance party Friday night with world-renowned DJ A-Trak as well as Brooklyn-based electropop duo Holy Ghost! Rounding out the bill are local favorites Gross Ghost and Baltimore-via-Greenville trio Future Islands.

And on Saturday, Spirtualized will headline a night that also includes Raleigh's The Lollipops and '90s alternative rock stalwarts The Breeders playing their landmark 1993 album "Last Splash."

Of course, as with year's past, the rest of the lineup is sprinkled with some 'bout-to-break gems, as well as lesser-known bands spanning the gamut of genres and a healthy selection of local artists.

Notably, Local Natives, the Velvet Underground's John Cale, Sleep, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Matthew Dear and ADULT. will all make their way to the Triangle this September.

Of note locally, Mount Moriah will play their entire catalog, and The Rosebuds will play Sade's "Love Deluxe" from start to finish. Raleigh bluegrass traditionalists Chatham County Line will also curate a four-band bill at the Long View Center.
