Grede plant in Radford to close

Posted: Updated:

The Grede plant in Radford, Virginia will be idled by the end of 2013.

A spokesperson Richard Pacini for Grede says the decision was made based off of a lack of competitive price production. He says it was a business decision.

The Furnace fire that happened last May was also a key factor in the decision.

250 employees work at the Radford facility. All salaried employees will receive severance pay.

Some of them will be eligible to transfer to other locations.

Employees who wished not to be identified told WSLS that December 16th would be their last day at work.

The plant is scheduled to be idled by December 31st, 2013.

Pacini says the there is a possibility that the plant could reopen in the future.
