Roanoke County EMS personnel pull victims from an apartment fire

Volunteer firefighters and EMS with the Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Company make a difference by saving two victims of an apartment fire before crews arrived to the scene.

Paramedic Ethan Dressler and EMT in training Hunter Mood entered a smoky apartment in Roanoke County, pulling the victims outside to safety where they could be treated and taken to the hospital Monday night.

Since Dressler and Mood are also volunteer fire fighters they knew they could get in and out safely.

"It's obviously not the ideal circumstance.  I don't ever want to have to go in to something dangerous without the gear I wear every day to protect me, but I was able to make a very informed decision that it was going to be safe to do that," Dressler said.

"I feel like there was a situation and we had to step up or someone could have seriously gotten hurt," Mood explained.

Helping Dressler and Mood pull people from the burning apartment was Roanoke County Officer Cara Jacobs.

    According to Roanoke City Police a shooting suspect is at large after one person was shot on the Roanoke River Greenway near the Ramada Inn on Franklin Road. Police say the victim has non-life threatening injuries. The call came in around 8:55.
