Posted: Updated:

Three people are forced to leave their home after a fire leaves heavy damage to their Roanoke City house.

Dispatchers say the fire started just before 8 PM on the 100 block of 14th street.

No one was injured and fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze by 11 p.m.

The owner told WSLS that the fire started while he was away at work in the top left bedroom.

He says he is upset by the fire but just happy that no one was hurt.

The Red Cross has provided some assistance to the family, as well as a place to stay for several nights.

The fire is still under investigation. No cause has yet been determined.
