Civil War Days To Give Students Rare Learning Opportunity

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of fifth graders from Franklin County will travel to Lakewatch Plantation for a special lesson in history today.

The students will learn about all aspects of life during the Civil War by watching reenactments.

Following the demonstrations, students will participate in an "information scavenger hunt". They'll talk with the reenactors about games, dress, and food.

This event is coordinated by the Franklin County Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee in conjunction with the Franklin County Office of Economic Development.

The committee says they want to give students an opportunity to learn locally. Philip Sheridan helps plan the event and says kids really enjoy the event. He says, "We also see them dragging their parents out on Saturday and Sunday. They want more."

The event will be open to the public on the weekend.

Tickets are $5.00 for age 12 and over; $2.00 for age 5 to 11; Free for under age 5.
