Roanoke Police using Facebook to help adopt animals

Posted: Updated:
ROANOKE -

The Roanoke City Police Department is now taking an active role in helping with animal adoptions.

A new animal is posted each day on the police department's Facebook page.

The post includes a picture, basic information, and how it can be adopted.

After the controversy that surrounded the regional pound last year, Roanoke City Police Chief Chris Perkins said this is a good way to put the focus back on the animals.

"The most important thing is to find those animals a good home," Perkins said. "Everybody is working toward that and it becomes frustrating to me when people lose sight of that as the primary goal. So one of the things I wanted to do is get some interest in these animals."

Perkins said the posts are getting a lot of positive feedback so far.

You can see the animals on the Safer City Roanoke Facebook page.
