SALEM -

In honor of the 200th anniversary of the governor's Executive Mansion in Richmond, this weekend historic homes across Virginia are offering free tickets.

Several historic homes throughout Southwest Virginia will open their doors for the event, including the Williams-Brown House on Main Street in Salem.

Salem Museum and house director John Long said it provides a great opportunity to show new exhibits and share the local history.

Plus, with Olde Salem Days this weekend, Long expects a big turnout.

"We are still one of the most historic houses in the area and it's great to be able to participate in this with others around the Commonwealth and to be able to celebrate the history of that's right here in our backyard," Long said.

Eight local historic homes will be part of the weekend event:

- Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace Historical Home in Wytheville

- Glencoe Museum & Gallery in Radford

- Haller-Gibboney Rock House Museum in Wytheville

- Inn at Hans Meadow in Christiansburg

- Point of Honor in Lynchburg

- Stonewall Jackson House in Lexington

- Sutherlin Mansion - Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History in Danville

- Williams-Brown House in Salem
