Eagle school spirit flying high at Auburn

Posted: Updated:
CRAIG COUNTY, VA -

It's a new era for the Auburn Eagles. Last week they ended their 39 game losing streak for a win against Narrows, and this Friday they dominated in a game against Craig County.

There's a new found school spirit in the stands and as you could tell by Friday nights game it's contagious.

The kickoffs are going farther. The cheerleading stunts are going higher, and the cheers in the stands are getting louder.

Helping to overcome that streak, a new head coach. Jack Turner couldn't be happier.

"It was special for the kids and the administration. The seniors haven't won a game since they've been at Auburn so you know it was special for those kids." Turner said. "I was happy for them and the community and our administration. They've had to deal with a lot over the years so I was happy for them."

Last week the senior cheerleaders cheered for a winning team for the first time since they've been in high school.

"It's eliciting  after the boys won their game. Everyone is happy," senior and cheer captain Tayla Fughut said.

"It's better to cheer for when their winning and happy," senior and cheer captain  Alaney Bishop said.

And the cheers are growing.

They say the eagles victory has completely turned around school spirit and it definitely showed at tonight's game.

"Before we wouldn't have had all of these people to come out just to watch us." senior cheer captain Karley Miller said. "I mean we were on a losing streak and so now we are finally starting to win so everyone is coming out."

While the cheerleaders pump up the crowd, Haley Briggs and Breyana Lytton keep it coming through the stands as the self proclaimed "scream team."

And you can hear them loud and clear.

"It was so good at school too because everyone was like whoo Auburn," Lytton said. "On facebook it was a lot of go Auburn stuff and they never get that so it's good to have the feeling like that because we haven't had it in four years."

Another win it is for Auburn. It's what fans hope will become a new streak for the eagles.
