Triangle universities appear on top schools list

The U.S. News and World Report ranked Duke University seventh in the country in  their list of the best colleges for 2014. Two other Triangle universities appear on the list.

UNC-Chapel Hill was listed at 30 where N.C. State University came in at 101.

The list is comprised of the best universities across the nation that offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and Ph.D. programs. U.S. News and World Report also said these colleges are committed to producing groundbreaking research.

Duke is tied with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania on the list.

The Durham-based private school has a total enrollment of 15,386 with a freshmen retention rate of 97 percent. Duke's fall 2012 acceptance rate was 13.4%

Standing alone at its ranking at 30, UNC has a total enrollment of 29,278 with 18,503 being undergrads. The list shows in-state tuition for UNC is $8,340 and out-of-state tuition costing $30,122. A total of 27.6 percent of applicants are accepted to the school.

N.C. State stands tied with eight other schools at 101. N.C. State is ranked equal to the University of Kansas, the University of Tennessee, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. N.C. State's undergraduate enrollment is 24,833 who pay $8,206 for in-state tuition and $21,661 for out-of-state tuition.
