NRV fundraiser to help NICU families at UVa hospital

Posted: Updated:

The New River Valley community is coming together this weekend and Batting for Brooklyn.

It's a softball tournament and fundraiser in honor of Brooklyn Graves a 7-month-old baby who passed away in January from a rare condition.

We caught up with Kristen Graves as she was out running last minutes errands Friday gearing up for Saturday's softball tournament.

First stop is Ginger's Jewelry to grab a few donated auction items.

Brooklyn's parent's hope to raise money for families, just like them, spending day after day in the NICU at UVa hospital.

"There are families every day in NICUs across the world that people have no idea what those families are going through," Kristen said.

The goal is to raise $5,000 through "Batting for Brooklyn".

Two social workers at the UVa hospital will have access to the money and give it to families to spend on whatever they need - whether it's gas money or place to stay.

The tournament starts Saturday at 9 a.m at Jaycee Field in Blacksburg.

If you would like to donate money make checks out to Brooklyn Mae Graves Memorial Fund.
