It was another solid showing for area schools in the 10th annual Knights Crossing Invitational. The meet has grown into what very well could be the largest Cross-Country invitational in SW Virginia history. 59 high schools and 34 middle schools participated--with the number of runners estimated at nearing 1800.  The host team's star--Katie Fortner capturing bronze in the girls top varsity race running the 5K in 18:28.  She says he felt it was important to put on a good showing on her home course--and that the exposure to many top runners in the Southeast will help her in meets moving forward. in the same girls race--the "Red" or large school race, the Blacksburg girls won the team title with a dominating performance, finishing 5th 7th 8th and 9th.  In the boys large school race Matthew Bradford of George Washington High in West Virginia ran a blazing 15:21.8 for the win. The Blacksburg boys were led by Noah Combs 6th place finish, as they grab a third place in the team standings.  It was a stacked field that was won by Broughton, a 4A powerhouse out of Raleigh North Carolina.  In the girls "black" or smaller school event, LCA's  Noel Palmer took home gold, while Alleghany's Gage Kern did the same in the Boys event.
