Speak Up Blacksburg launched to encourage community input

Posted: Updated:
BLACKSBURG, VA -

The town of Blacksburg is using social media to get community input on ideas and initiatives following the launch of Speak Up Blacksburg.

It's a moderated website used to encourage the sharing of ideas and prioritize community interests. Users will be able to post and "like" ideas.

"Speak Up Blacksburg is a place where you can share your ideas with the town, and also show your support for the ideas posted by others," said Community Relations Manager Heather Browning. "By 'liking' an idea, this allows the town to determine which topics are of broad community interest. You can also share ideas and comments on Facebook and Twitter, which is a great way to let social networking friends know that you've posted something they may want to support as well." As users post ideas, they will receive a confirmation email and from that point be able to track the progress of their idea every time they log on.

Town leaders will also post ideas and ask for feedback.
