Hokies Look Ahead for Improvement Against Thundering Herd

Posted: Updated:

Coach Frank Beamer called it another step for his team--And while the 15-10 win at East Carolina wasn't a big step on the scoreboard in what certainly were the unstable purple surroundings of Greenville, NC. There's no question Logan Thomas and his young receivers took many many steps with a 25 for 43 effort..and two touchdown passes.  Logan explains that he gains confidence in his receivers as they gain confidence in themselves, and when he sees them smiling and having fun, it helps him develop a rhythm with them.

The Hokies next opponent is Marshall. The conference USA contender is 2-1 after wins over Miami(OH) and Gardner-Webb and a three-point loss to Ohio. The Thundering Herd is currently ranked third in the nation in plays run--which means that up-tempo hurry up offensive fad---continues in Huntington, West Virginia.  Coach Beamer was more specific in his complimentary comments about quarterback Rakeem Cato, who played a couple of years ago against Virginia Tech but has since matured into an outstanding quarterback.

Through three games the Thundering Herd is third in the nation in first downs..and first in plays that have gone at least 10 yards. Two more reasons the Hokies 2nd ranked defense--might be tested this Saturday at Lane Stadium.  Kickoff Saturday slated for 12:01 PM from Blacksburg.
