Storm water discussion on tap for Roanoke Co. tonight

ROANOKE COUNTY, VA -

Roanoke County will have the first of seven meetings tonight to discuss how it will handle new state and federal mandates related to storm water.

An advisory committee made up of 21 people appointed by the Board of Supervisors will meet. Supervisors say the committee is comprised of stakeholders representing residents, businesses and non-profit organizations. The board wants the committee to come up with recommendations by next year.

We wanted to know exactly what the board would focus on as it determined how to deal with and pay for storm water management and how it would impact you. "When we talk about quality of living it's about what goes into our waters and streams due to rains, floods, and sedimentations that sometimes leave our properties and go into these waters, said Tarek Moneir, Roanoke County's Deputy Director of Development Services.

The public meeting is tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the South County Library.

Additional committee meetings have been scheduled for Thursday, October 10; Thursday, October 24; Thursday, November 7; Thursday, December 5; Thursday, January 9; and Thursday, February 6.
