Salem shooting suspect caught in Roanoke

SALEM, VA -

Salem Police say a suspect wanted in a shooting from this past Friday, has been arrested in Roanoke.

Officers found Jasper Reed Jackson, of Bedford, at a home in the Star City early this past Saturday morning.

Investigators believe Jackson shot 35-year-old Damian Wright, of Roanoke, around 9:30 p.m. this past Friday night, at the Oak Park Apartments in the 100 block of Otter Avenue in Salem.

EMTs took Wright to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.

Salem Police say they worked together with Roanoke City Police to track down Jackson.

Officers charged WRight with:

  • Aggravated malicious wounding
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Assault & Battery of a law enforcement officer
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Failure to appear

Jackson is being held at the Roanoke County-Salem Jail without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
