President Obama will address the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He's expected to focus on both foreign and domestic issues including Syria's chemical weapons, mideast peace talks and Iran's nuclear pursuits.

Two Roanoke County Fire & Rescue members and a police officer will be recognized by the Board of Supervisors this afternoon for pulling two unresponsive men from a burning apartment earlier this month. The three will be at the 3:00 meeting at the Roanoke County Administration Center.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will conduct a pulse release at Gathright Dam, near Covington beginning this morning at 6 a.m. In some areas, the rate of the river rise may exceed two feet per hour. The controlled release will help determine whether the pulses effectively remove algae and improve water quality in the lower Jackson River.

The Floyd County Economic Development Authority will have a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Floyd Innovation Center this afternoon at 2:00 P.M.. The mixed-use facility will provide space to help high-tech industries expand.

The Virginia Recreational Facilities Authority which oversees Explore Park will meet this morning at 10:30 a.m.. It's the first gathering since last week's public meeting on the agreement establishing a 99-year lease to the county.

The Roanoke Valley SPCA's spay-ghetti lunch and dinner is today. Enjoy spaghetti, salad, bread and a drink to benefit the RVSPAC in-house spay/neuter clinic from 11:00 a.m.to 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jefferson Center.
