DOWNTOWN ROANOKE -

Tonight the second of three public meetings about the future of Downtown Roanoke will begin.

The City of Roanoke and Downtown Roanoke, Inc. Are beginning to work on a long-range plan for the future of the Star City. The focus of these meetings is to get input from the public, and find out what they would like to see in Downtown Roanoke's future.

While no specific plans will be shared until the final meeting on October 17th, there were quite a few new ideas during the last meeting two weeks ago.

Ideas include:

· Streetscape improvements and beautification;
· More activity, retail throughout the downtown;
· Improvements to way finding, parking

"We're now looking at how to make Downtown speak on behalf of the citizens as a symbol for the region and the community," says Price Gutshall, the Vice President of Economic Development for Downtown Roanoke, Inc. "There are a lot of great ideas and we want to see how we can address those and take them on as a list of priorities."

Tonight's meeting starts at 7:30 in the Roanoke City Market Building.
